NORFOLK – Thanks to Mother Nature, the East Norfolk Avenue construction project is underway over two weeks early.
Workers began installing a new water main just east of the Norfolk Avenue and First Street intersection Wednesday morning. City Public Works Director Dennis Smith says the mild weather has allowed the contractor to start work well before the projected March start date.
While the water main installation is going on, the north lane of traffic on Norfolk Avenue will be closed through Monday, Feb. 20th.
When complete, the $5.7 million project will include installation of a new bridge, a new trail under the bridge, a new waterline crossing the river and a new five-lane road section from First Street to Cottonwood Street.
Access to local businesses will be maintained during the construction.
Anyone who has any questions or wants to know more about the project can attend an open house in the Norfolk City Council chambers on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
