Dr. Novotny Honored with Service Above Self Award

COLUMBUS – Dr. Nila Novotny was honored with the Service Above Self Award Thursday morning.

Dr. Novotny has spent many hours volunteering for a variety of different organizations, but the ones that have taken most of her time are Fantastic 4-Hers, work with the Federated Church, and Medical Missions in foreign countries.

Dr. Novotny says Fantastic 4-Hers has remained close to her heart over over the past couple of decades.

“We’ve probably circled 300 kids through our program over the past 25 years, and so even though my kids have aged out, and I just love it. I love the families. They’re the nicest people ever, and so I’m just always enthusiastic about it,” says Dr. Novotny.

Novotny says she has always loved the work the rotary has done.

“I was really honored by getting that award, and a little bit surprised. I know I’ve done a lot of volunteer things, but I really didn’t think it was much more than a lot of people do,” says Novotny.

Novotny’s list of volunteer work extends much longer than the 3 listed above, including Big Pals Lil Pals, and the Tour de Platte which is coming up in early May. The Tour de Platte Family Bike ride supports the Columbus Area Recreational Trails, and Novotny says the goal is to keep the city a friendly place for active families.
