Dorn Wins 30th District Legislative Seat…Brandt Upends Incumbent Ebke

BEATRICE – Gage County Board Chairman Myron Dorn has won a seat in the Nebraska Legislature, defeating Don Schuller of rural Wymore in a back-and-forth battle for the 30th District seat vacated by the retirement of Senator Roy Baker.

Unofficially Dorn defeated Schuller by a total of 7,864 to 6,971…a six-percent margin.  The race included voters in all of Gage County and the southern area of Lancaster County.

Dorn said he was amazed at the overall interest in the race.

Voter turnout in Gage County was over 59% for the election.   Dorn said the legislative race was a very competitive one.

Schuller said he doesn’t know what he could have done differently to close the gap.  He said money makes a difference, and his campaign was conservative in its approach.  He said his campaign had good volunteer support.

Schuller doesn’t rule out another try at public office in the future. Both candidates emphasized the need to address the property tax burden in Nebraska, as a key issue in the race.

In the 32nd District State Legislative race, the incumbent was defeated.  Tom Brandt of Plymouth cruised to a victory over Laura Ebke of Crete….by an unofficial vote count of 5,573 to 4,155….a victory margin of nearly 15 percent.
