Deputies Say Drug-Laced Candy Found After Pursuit Out of Peru

AUBURN – Nemaha County sheriff’s deputies ended a pursuit with stop sticks outside of Peru and arrested an Elmwood man for suspicion of possession of drug-laced candy.

A Nemaha County deputy reported a stop sign violation in Peru on Jan. 15 and activated overhead lights.

An arrest affidavit says the GMC Sonama pickup did not stop until it had traveled to Highway 67 west of Peru. The driver got out, but returned to the pickup. The affidavit says the driver, 21-year-old Tristan S. Hilton said “sorry” as he pulled away.

Deputies deployed stop sticks before the pickup reached Highway 75 and apprehended Hilton.

The affidavit says a candy sucker laced with synthetic canniboids was found in the truck.
