David City Man Accused of Selling His Sick Wife’s Pain Pills

DAVID CITY, Neb. – A David City man admitted to authorities that he has been selling his wife’s prescription painkillers for several years, according to court records.

Records say 50-year-old Robert Smith took the pain pills of his wife, who has cerebral palsy and other medical conditions, and sold them without her knowledge on a monthly basis for 3-4 years.

Smith told police he had sold them to a woman in Omaha, records say.

Court documents say in one instance Smith dumped his wife out of her lift chair out of anger and also on numerous occasions, he pushed her wheelchair while her feet dragged on the floor, causing visible injury.

The arrest affidavit also indicated Smith has withheld food and water from the woman on a regular basis.

He is charged with felony abuse of a vulnerable adult and he’ll be in Butler County Court on April 12th.
