Critter Count, Saturday, at National Monument West of Beatrice

BEATRICE – The Homestead National Monument of America will draw upon volunteer support this Saturday to count critters, on the grounds west of Beatrice.

Monument Education Center experts will lead volunteers in counting birds, between 7 and 9:30 a.m., documenting plants between 10 a.m. and noon……and doing a count of insects, between 12:30 p.m and 2:30 p.m.

Data will be collected using the iNaturalist app, though volunteers don’t need a device, to participate.

On Saturday, the monument will also be hosting a Biodiversity Fair at the Education Center, from 10 until 3.

Homestead Superintendent Mark Engler says last year’s critter count identified 184 different species.   The Saturday events are for all ages.
