Crete Police hosting trick-or-treaters at police station on Halloween

CRETE, NE – The Crete Police Department is hosting its annual Halloween event for trick-or-treaters on Wednesday.

The police station in Crete, located on Forest Avenue just off Highway 33, will hold an open house on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Crete PD encourages children in the area to show up in costume.

Officers will be handing out candy, glow sticks and other goodies.

“Children from around the community and from around the Crete area come to the police station to meet the police offers, see the police car, get candy and glow sticks,” Crete Chief of Police Steve Hensel said. “It’s just a great time for everybody.”

Hensel says the department has put on their annual Halloween event for at least the last 15 years. Ofc. Sally Tima was the lead organizer of the event this year.

“She was also aided by our entire staff,” Hensel said, “who’s devoted time and attention to decorating our entire garage.”

Hensel expects about 400-600 children to pass through the police station on Halloween.

“The last several years, the low (attendance) would be about 500,” Hensel said.
