CRETE – Crete’s Great Pumpkin Festival Steering Committee met Wednesday to review the weather forecast for Sunday, Oct. 7 due to the likelihood of rain.
After much consideration, the Great Pumpkin Festival Steering Committee decided to move Sunday’s activities to its indoor rain location at Doane University’s Fuhrer Field House.
As of Thursday afternoon, there’s a 50 percent chance for scattered thunderstorms in the Crete area on Sunday.
So far, only Sunday’s events from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00pm will be moved to Fuhrer Field House. All kick-off and pre-festival activities on Friday and Saturday will continue as planned at their set times and locations.
Crete Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kayleigh Schadwinkel says the festival’s group of over 250 volunteers make the celebration possible in rain or shine.
“It’s amazing to see the different groups come together for a common cause,” Schadwinkel said, “to be able to make this not just the Crete Chamber event, but the entire Crete community festival, which is awesome.”
Volunteers come from all corners of Crete, including Crete High School and Doane University.
Sunday’s main attractions include a Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest, Carnival Games, Craft Show & Farmers Market, the Great Pumpkin Giveaway, the Great Pumpkin Growing Contest, Pumpkin Silent Auction and more.
Some Sunday activities may vary from the original printed schedule due to the relocation. More information can be found here.
