COLUMBUS – A Columbus 6-year-old is heading to Anaheim, California, where she will represent Nebraska in a national pageant.
Kynnlee Hamling is representing her home state of Nebraska in the National American Miss pageant over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Kynnlee’s mother Courtney says her daughter was invited to compete in the national pageant after winning two trophies.
“All I did everything that I could to do my best and I got a golden ticket, a golden ticket thing,” says Kynnlee.
The golden ticket meant Kynnlee will get to participate in the national competition. Kynnlee will get escorted by her father, Brandon Shelton on the red carpet at the pageant and she says she is excited to get to their hotel, before showing off her various routines for the judges.
“She does a gymnastics routine, casual wear as a runway model, and then she does photogenic contests. And then she has twelve different outfits she changes into, and a big poofy fancy cinderella dress and then [‘high heels’ whispers Kynnlee] and stiletto high heels,” says Courtney Hamling.
Pageant contestants will have the opportunity to win $800 in scholarship money, in addition to other small prizes. If Kynnlee is selected as a national ambassador, she will get to travel all 50 states, as well as win $2,000 and get a photoshoot in Texas. With great prizes on the line, Kynnlee says she is just focused on doing the best she can.
“Im ready to go on vacation,” says Courtney Hamling, “she’s been working hard, she does her gymnastics routine every week at gymnastics here at Heartland in Columbus, and then she works at home she has her mats at home she practices.”
