Columbus Woman Killed in Saunders County Crash

SAUNDERS COUNTY — Authorities say a 37-year-old Columbus woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Saunders County on Thursday night.

At approximately 9:50 p.m., the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Hwy 79 and County Road R, just outside of Prague, Nebraska.

A 2008 Dodge Ram driven by Chad Kreikemeir, 30, of Weston, was southbound on Hwy 79.

A 2000 Toyota driven by Jennifer Abernathy, 37, of Columbus was eastbound on County Road R and failed to stop at the stop sign at Hwy 79 and R.

The Toyota was struck broadside by the Dodge Ram at the intersection.

A passenger in the Toyota, Lakota Marvin, 19, was life-flighted to Bryan Hospital. A spokesperson for Bryan Health said Marvin is in critical condition as of Thursday morning.

Kreikemeir was transported to the hospital and later released.

Abernathy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is on-going, and alcohol may have been a factor, authorities said.
