City of Beatrice Swapping Property With Scrap Business

BEATRICE – The City of Beatrice and Beatrice Scrap Processing are swapping pieces of property, allowing construction of a new recreational trail link to go forward this year.

The city council, Monday night, approved acquiring property from the business near the northwest corner of the 3rd and Market Street intersection.  City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says the property is in the area where a trail connection will run through, extending from Trailhead Park at 2nd and Court, south to Dempster Manufacturing.

The city needed additional ground to allow for the trail through that area.  The change also keeps trucks that use that area slightly farther away from the trail section.  Tempelmeyer says a wire and post, or natural barrier would be constructed separating the trail from the property of Beatrice Scrap Processing.

No money is changing hands in the process…simply trading one parcel of property for another.  It was the final piece of property the city needed to acquire to clear the way for the trail project to start.  The trail section is following the path where Union Pacific railroad tracks, once existed.
