BEATRICE – Ownership by the City of Beatrice where a condemned building was torn down, is nearing the end.
The Beatrice City Council Tuesday night gave first-round approval to a contract for sale of the small plot of land to Ray Arter and Kate Ratigan, owners of the adjacent Black Crow Restaurant.
Commonly referred to as 407 Court, the vacant building’s roof collapsed nearly three years ago, touching off a lengthy process to bring the building down and negotiate acquisition and sale of the land, by the City of Beatrice. Under the agreement, the restaurant owners pay $2,000 down, and an additional $8,000 in 18 monthly payments, beginning next June 1st. Final approval is pending.
In other action Tuesday night, elected officials approved a contract payment to Lottman Carpenter Construction for work on the North 2nd Street paving project. The payment totals $303,720.
The council approved a preliminary supplemental engineering agreement on the Nebraska Transportation Department’s portion of the 2nd Street project, from Court to Ella.
Officials also approved a contract payment of some $67,000 to K2 Construction, for extending a sewer line to the Hendrix Genetics hatchery, in north Beatrice.
