Citizen Report Aids Drug Arrest, East of Beatrice

BEATRICE – The help of citizen report led Gage County law officers to make a drug arrest east of Beatrice, Tuesday night.

Sheriff’s officials received a call about suspicious and possibly drug-related activity. The report detailed a male possibly under the influence of drugs, wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans, driving a dark colored Ford Fusion with no license plates.   The caller to authorities followed the vehicle until it pulled into the One-Stop gas station near U.S. Highway 136 and Nebraska Highway 4, about eight miles east of Beatrice.

Deputies arriving on scene contacted a male identified as 57-year-old Whitney Hopkins, of Blue Springs.

While there, a Gage County K-9 was brought to the scene to walk around the man’s vehicle.  The dog, “Buster”, indicated the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.  A search by deputies located several individually packaged small baggies containing what was later identified as methamphetamine.   Authorities also found a glass meth pipe in the vehicle.

Hopkins was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth with intent to deliver, possession of an illegal drug and drug paraphernalia.  He is being held at the Gage County Jail.
