Broadside Collision at U.S. 77 and Sargent Road, in North Beatrice

BEATRICE – One person was hospitalized when a pickup pulled into the path of a northbound truck and was hit broadside, late Monday afternoon.

The collision between a truck owned by Mead Lumber company and a Ford Ranger pickup happened at 6th and Sargent Road.   Assistant Fire Chief Jake Carrel says the driver of the pickup was in stable condition, conscious and alert at the scene.

The collision happened in the northbound lanes of U.S. 77, and both vehicles ended up off the northeast corner of the intersection, with the lumber truck up against the overturned pickup.   Beatrice Police Officer Kristine Gill says there were witnesses to the collision.

The first driver who applied the brakes to avoid the collision, was southbound.  The driver in the lumber company truck which was in the outside northbound lane, was not injured.

The accident occurred about a quarter-mile north of the intersection of 6th and Industrial Row, which was closed beginning today, for a reconstruction project.

The collision happened at around four p.m. and slowed traffic through the scene, while police, a fire truck and rescue vehicle were at that location.
