Bridge Damage Reduces Highway 53 To One Lane

ALEXANDRIA – Nebraska Highway 53 is down to one lane just south of Alexandria because of a hole in the bridge over the Little Blue River.

The Department of Transportation says holes developed in the bridge, reducing it to one lane with lowered speeds. The damage was the result of old age and regular wear and tear.

The road is expected to remain one lane through the weekend until the bridge can be inspected on Monday, at which time it’s likely to be closed indefinitely.
