BHS Athletes Honored for State Championship Performance

BEATRICE – Members of the Beatrice Orangemen Class B State Track champions were honored before the Beatrice Board of Education, Monday night.  It was the first BHS state title in any sport, since 2008.

Among those recognized was the 400-meter relay team that won a state title, with a time of 43.78 seconds. The team members are Andrew Mahoney, Dillon Buss, Dillon Damme and Zach Thies.

Cameron Jurgens, a University of Nebraska football recruit, became a four-time state champion in the discus and three-time champion in the shotput.  He won both events by a margin of about six feet, over his nearest challenger.

Also placing at the state track meet were Brayden Frerichs in the 32-hundred run and Austin Hinz in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Beatrice Orangemen won the state title with 55 team points, twelve better than Boys Town.  Scottsbluff, York and McCook rounded out the top five.
