BEATRICE – Perhaps in need of some good news, Gage County received some, today. The county’s fixed costs for employee health care coverage will go up less than one percent this coming year.
:05 “really good”
Brad Swigart of Northwestern Mutual says prior to negotiations, the fixed cost increase was more than eleven-percent. The county’s current third-party administrator in a self-insurance plan is Cypress Benefit Administrators. Bids were also received from Blue Cross-Blue Shield, Meritain and United Health Care.
Those companies fixed cost increases ranged from about 1.7%, up to nearly 17%.
The Gage County Board approved the negotiated half-percent increase, with Cypress, at an annual premium cost of just under $330,000.
:08 “could happen”
Reinsurance under the county plan is provided through American National Insurance Company.
