BEATRICE – Highway travel is back to normal in the city of Beatrice, following days of flooding along the Big Blue River.
US Highway 136 in west Beatrice was reopened to travel Monday afternoon. The highway known as West Court Street had been closed since Friday morning.
Both major highways through Beatrice are now open.
Even though the inconvenience is gone for motorists, flooding continues in Beatrice city parks and trail areas. Riverside Park is closed off by flooding as the Big Blue continues to pour over most of the park and recreational trail, not far from River Road, the street that lines the south edge of the park.
The Big Blue River level in Beatrice has begun a steady fall. National Weather Service forecasters now project the Big Blue will drop to its flood stage of 18 feet by late Wednesday morning after reaching a crest of nearly 27 feet late Sunday morning.
