Beatrice School Board Sets Rates For Coming School Year

BEATRICE – New lunch, breakfast and bus transportation rates have been approved for the coming year in the Beatrice Public School District.  District Business Affairs Director John Brazell says the breakfast and lunch prices are going up five cents. Currently, the average price of a meal in the district is $2.86.

The Beatrice School Board also approved a two-dollar increase per month in the fee for in-community students to ride a bus to school.  Students who reside within nine blocks of their school have the option of paid transportation.  The Board also approved milk and bread bids for the coming year.

Brazell says the district will contract with Hiland Dairy.

The board chose Rotella Bakery for the contract to supply bread for the district’s meal program.  Two companies submitted bids.

After a five-year agreement with Pepsi, the Beatrice School Board approved a new exclusive licensing agreement with Coca-Cola for the next five years.

The substitute teacher daily pay rate has been set for next year, in the Beatrice Public School District.  It will rise from $124, to $135.   Brazell says the adjustment is needed to stay competitive with other area districts for substitute teachers.

The District 15 Board has also renewed an agreement with SOCS, for maintaining the school district website.  The renewal for a three-year-period is at $2,750 annually.

Student and staff handbooks have been approved for the coming year, and the board of education finalized policy on student fees and parental involvement.
