Beatrice Police Arrest Suspect for DUI, Assault

BEATRICE – Local police arrested a man overnight on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and domestic assault.

Beatrice officers were called to the two-hundred block of North Bell Street, on a report of an assault.  Officers arriving on scene in west Beatrice saw a jeep parked in the middle of the twelve hundred block of Meriwether Street.  The vehicle had a man and two children inside.  Police say the man showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol.

Investigating officers also learned that he allegedly had stood over a woman lying on the floor of a home and punched her in the head.   The 48-year-old woman was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital.

Police arrested 51-year-old Scott Tumpach Sr. on suspicion of third offense driving under the influence of alcohol, domestic assault, two counts of child abuse and refusal to submit to alcohol testing.  According to court records, Tumpach later registered a preliminary blood alcohol test result of point-2-0-8.

The children who were in the vehicle, ages twelve and fifteen, have been turned over to the custody of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Court records indicate Tumpach has prior DUI convictions from 2005 and 2011.

His appearance bond has been set in Gage County Court at $7,500, with further proceedings scheduled for May 8th.
