Beatrice Police Arrest Man After Finding Drugs, Guns in Motel Room

BEATRICE – Answering a report of the strong odor of marijuana, Beatrice Police arrested a man at a local motel on drug and weapon charges, over the weekend.

Leroy Dominick Harper was arrested Saturday on suspicion of firearm possession in a drug crime, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of drug money and possession of less than a pound of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Officers were summoned to a north Beatrice motel at around 2:30 p.m.  They detected the odor of marijuana coming from one of the rooms.  Police checking the room observed it was full of white-colored smoke.   During a search, police found a large brick of marijuana in zip-lock bag and another bag containing large clumps of pot. Police also found a scale.

Also found in the room was a gun case with an unloaded shotgun, and a handgun with a ten-round extended magazine and one bullet in the gun’s chamber.  Police say a records check indicated the handgun had been reported stolen, in Oklahoma.   Police also seized cash totaling $1,360.

An appearance bond has been set for Harper, at $7,500.  He is scheduled to appear in Gage County Court, May 8th.
