Beatrice Police Arrest Lincoln Man in Labor Day Scrap Metal Theft

BEATRICE – Beatrice Police report they arrested a Lincoln man on Labor Day for allegedly stealing scrap items from Harms Trucking, Inc., located along Industrial Row.

Police were summoned at 4:30 a.m. on a report that employees of the company had observed a pickup driving past the back of their property.

Lieutenant Jay Murphy says the truck left the scene, but apparently left a trailer.

Officers contacted the driver, identified as 60-year-old Patrick Sardeson, of Lincoln.  Investigating officers said he was muddy and wet from the rain, had a flashlight with him and a saw blade.  Murphy says the pickup’s two-inch ball hitch matched the receiver on the trailer.

Beatrice Police arrested Sardeson for theft and theft by receiving stolen property.  Murphy said a significant amount of scrap metal had been taken from Harms Trucking.

Murphy says Sardeson may also be charged with theft of the trailer, by Lincoln authorities.
