Beatrice Man Granted Probation for Drug, Weapon Convictions

BEATRICE – A 35-year-old Beatrice man has been given a three-year-probation sentence on two criminal cases against him.

Joshua Beck heard his sentence Monday, from Gage County District Judge Rick Schreiner.   Beck earlier was convicted of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person.  His attorney, Benjamin Murray, of Hebron…said his client has been respectful and cooperative during his pending cases.

Before sentencing, Beck told the judge he can return to a job he had prior to his arrest.

The judge said Beck’s criminal history was not extensive and he is not a violent person.  He noted that Beck previously completed successfully, a stay at the Nebraska Work Ethic Camp.  Judge Schreiner said it’s more of a substance abuse problem, where Beck is judged to be high-risk in that area.

Beck was ordered to pay court costs from the two cases, totaling $288.
