Beatrice Graduating Seniors Receive Foundation Scholarships

BEATRICE – Beatrice High School graduating seniors are being honored with scholarships totaling $81,575 through the Beatrice Educational Foundation.

The scholarships are funded through family donations to the foundation, recognizing students for their accomplishments.

Among the largest awards, five $6,000 Fred and Virginia Vette Scholarships were awarded to Steven Powers, Evan Witulski, Calvin Schuck, Kayla Gaertig and Nalin Theplikhith.

Francis Fellwock Reed Scholarships totaling $7,000 each are going to Alexis Thavenet and Hannah Rinne.

Scholarships awarded ranged from $150 up to $7,000.

The Beatrice Educational Foundation honored a new Hall of Fame member.  Bill Armstrong is a 1972 graduate of Beatrice High School and a University of Nebraska graduate where he was on the Husker football team.  He’s been recognized for his volunteer support to his home community. His daughter Alicia was a star softball player for the Huskers.

Laureen Riedesul was named this year’s Friend of Education.  She has been the Director of the Beatrice Public Library since 1977, working with numerous teachers and students on educational projects and topics.  She’s considered to be the expert to go to, on anything to do with local history.

The scholarship award winners, Hall of Fame and Friend of Education were announced during a reception at the Beatrice High School Commons, Sunday afternoon.
