Beatrice girls tie for first, Crete boys take second at Fairbury Invite Friday

FAIRBURY – The Fairbury Track and Field Invitational took place Friday afternoon on what was a warm, sunny day. The meet was pushed up from Saturday due to anticipated rain.

Seward took first on the boys side with 130 total points. Crete came in second with 113, Beatrice was 5th with 50 and Fairbury finished 6th out of 10 teams with 43 total points.

Looking at some notable area results from the boys’ side:

100 meter dash:

Andrew Mahoney  (Beatrice) finished 2nd (11.28).
Diego Rodriguez o(Beatrice) was right behind in 3rd (11.68).

Mahoney and Rodriguez also finished 2nd (23.11) and 3rd (23.81) in the 200-meter dash, respectively.

400 meter dash:

Carter Reckling (Crete) took first (52.21).

Vincent Laurenroth (Crete) finished second (54.38).

Brandon Hinrichs (Fairbury) came home third (56.23).

800 meter dash:

Ethan Rasgorshek (Crete) came home first (2:10.17).

1600 meter dash:

Garrett Nichols (Fillmore Central) placed 2nd (5:00.17)

100 meter hurdles:

Zachary Turner of Crete won (15.24).

Dillon Weichel (Fairbury), who recently signed to be a hurdler at Concordia, placed 2nd (15.67).

4×100 relay:

Crete won (44.26). The Cardinals also took first in the 4×400 (3:32.54).

High Jump:

Diego Rodriguez (Beatrice) took first with a jump of 6 feet-2 inches. Dylan Starr (Fairbury) placed third at 5 feet-10 inches.

Triple Jump:

Isaac Robertson (Fairbury) took third and set a new PR with a jump of 40 feet-10 inches.

Shot put:

Jaedon Lothrop (Crete) won the event with a throw of 46 feet, 10.5 inches.

Girls recap:

Syracuse and Beatrice tied for first on Friday with 94 points each. Fairbury took 3rd with 83 points, and Crete was 4th with 58. Now, for the top area girls’ results:

100 meter dash:

Addison Barnard (Beatrice) took first (13.08).

400 meter dash:

Veronica Pinkerton (Beatrice) won (1:01.14).

Sara Huss (Fairbury) finished 2nd (1:03.07).

800 meter dash:

Pinkerton (Beatrice_ won gold at 2:24.18.

4×800 meter relay:

Beatrice took first with a time of 10:25.32.

Girls’ Pole Vault:

Claire Shumard (Fairbury) finished second in the meet and set a new school record with a vault of 9 feet, 2 inches.

Triple Jump:

Addison Barnard (Beatrice) won the event with a jump 35 feet-5 inches.

Elizabeth “Izze” Eltze (Crete) came in second at 35 feet-1 inch.


Jessa Eden (Fairbury) finished 2nd at 135 feet-5 inches. Her teammate, Sara Huss, finished 3rd at 124 feet-7 inches.

What’s Next

Fairbury will next compete at Thayer Central on Thursday beginning at 10:30.

Beatrice will be at Norris Thursday beginning at 10 a.m.
