BEATRICE – The Beatrice girls’ track team finished as runner-up, while the Norris boys took home the championship in the District B-3 track and field meet at the House of Orange Thursday.
On a cool, cloudy and windy day, The Lady O finished with 74 points as a team, while Waverly ran away with the girls’ title, racking up 130 points in all.
Crete came home fourth on the girls’ side with 57 points.
The Norris Titans meanwhile won the boys division, scoring 121 points. Seward was second with 101. Crete was fourth with 91 and Beatrice was ninth with 8.
Beatrice junior Addison Barnard, who qualified for the 2018 state track meet in four events, is headed back to Omaha Burke Stadium in 2019, taking first in triple jump (36 feet-2.75 inches) and placing second in the 200 meter dash (26.46 seconds).
“It’s good to get something good accomplished out of a bad weather day,” Barnard said. “I’m just glad I did good in the triple jump, because that’s my main thing.”
Barnard finished 10th in triple jump at state last year, with a distance of 33 feet-9 inches.
Elsewhere, the Lady O’s 4×800 relay team of Veronica Pinkerton, Makenzie Hatcliff, Trinity Eichenberger and Chelsea Leners placed first with a time of 10:16.94.
Pinkerton also qualified for state in the 800 with a time of 2:26.02, as well as the 400 (1:01.32). She medaled 5th at state last year in the 800 (2:25.51).
Lastly, Jordan Maschmann qualified for state in pole vault, clearing 9 feet-6 inches.
For the Beatrice boys, Diego Rodriguez punched his ticket to state in high jump, clearing 6 feet-1 inch. He was two inches from tying for first place.
