BEATRICE – The owners and renovators of an historic building at 301 Court in downtown Beatrice are letting the public in on information about its use.
Todd and Soni Hydo have announced the two-story building, with a limestone basement, will be used partly as a brewery. The building will also be named The Beatrice Mercantile Building….and the first tenant who has signed a lease, is The Stone Hollow Brewing Company.
Todd Hydo says the company is a local partnership.
:14 “possibly a restaurant”
In addition to the two floors, Hydo says the couple plans to also open the basement area to the public. The building will have its own elevator and will meet ADA requirements.
The hope is to open the brewery portion of the building around late fall or early winter, near the holidays. The building will also have an outside patio seating area and ADA ramp along the west side of the structure.
Hydo says there were significant problems with the building when the project began.
:35 “not saveable”
The building has a new roof, new façade and windows. Hydo says construction will probably extend into next year, as improvements continue on the interior. The building, according to local historians, dates back to the 1870s or 1880s.
The couple has received a lot of positive feedback about the building and are happy that it is finding new uses. Hydo says the goal was to preserve its appearance as much as possible, while still meeting modern building codes.
Hydo says a more information will come out on the brewery part of the building, in the months to come. He says there will be, “lots of neat stuff going on in this building”.
