BEATRICE – A defense attorney is asking Gage County District Judge Rick Schreiner to throw out a drug conspiracy charge against a Wymore woman.
Barbara Coleman is one of several people charged following an investigation into an alleged conspiracy to distribute illegal drugs, in Gage County. In part of their investigation, authorities used recorded jail phone calls to aid in developing the case against several defendants.
Coleman’s attorney, Jerry Shelton questioned the bind over of the case to district court.

Shelton told the judge that an investigator acknowledged in testimony that in many of the recorded conversations between Coleman and her jailed son were about ordinary things, such as getting bond money or car titles. He also said the investigator assumed that some of the conversations were about controlled substances.

Chief Deputy Gage County Attorney Amanda Spracklen-Hogan said there was adequate reason to send the case over to district court.

Judge Schreiner took the matter under advisement and will issue a ruling on the plea in abatement. No new court hearing date, has been set.
