Arrest Made in Beatrice Tobacco Shop Burglary

BEATRICE – A suspect has been arrested in the burglary of a tobacco shop.   Beatrice Police have arrested 27-year-old Eric Smith for alleged burglary and possession of stolen property.

Sergeant Jay Murphy says officers received information from a confidential informant identifying Smith as a suspect.

Police made the arrest at the suspect’s home, in the eighteen hundred block of Scott Street.  Police said cigarettes were stolen, but no money.

Entry was gained to the business by throwing a brick through the front window.  Police are investigating an attempted break-in at R-and-B Arms, in west Beatrice.  No arrest has been made.

Murphy says police also recovered a stolen vehicle Monday, in a separate investigation.  The car was taken from the two-hundred block of South 22nd Street.  The theft report came in at around six a.m.   Sergeant Murphy says police located the car just over three hours later, in the one hundred block of South 13th.
