BEATRICE – Over 2,500 tickets are being handed out for tonight’s Agri-Business Appreciation Barbecue, which begins on the Gage County Fairgrounds at five p.m.
Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce President Angie Bruna says the annual event is a way of showing appreciation to the agriculture community and its critical tie to overall business in the area.
The barbecue is one of the events the Chamber’s Agriculture Committee conducts each year.
:22 “a great time”
The chamber partners with the Southeast Community College Agriculture Club, whose members set up the tables for tonight’s event in the livestock barn on the fairgrounds. Volunteers do the serving. There’s also a line where you can pick up barbecue, to go.
The first full day of the 2018 Gage County Fair and Expo is Wednesday, with this year’s theme, “Come Home to the Gage County Fair”.
Gage County Ag Society Treasurer Lisa Wiegand says open class entries will be coming in today, from noon until seven. Wiegand says the ticket sales for major entertainment are going very well.

The grandstand stage was going up today, a nine-hour process to put the entertainment stage in place at the Beatrice Speedway.
Weekend features include the Eve of Destruction and Beatrice Speedway Racing. Fair officials say there are about 3,600 pre-fair entries to come in, as the fair gets set for its five-day run.
