FAIRBURY – The Fairbury Rural Fire Department is still crunching numbers to find out the total funds raised in this year’s Mountain Oyster Feed. However, according to ticket sales, it will be another record year.
Roughly 500 people enjoyed all you can eat Mountain Oysters as well as burgers, hotdogs, homemade salads, and desserts.
The annual event raises money for the Volunteer Department’s trust fund. Barry Schwab, a member of the Fire Department says that these funds are used for equipment that they don’t want to go to the board to budget for, but tools they feel are helpful.
“A couple of years ago the volunteers used their money to purchase a new UTV to help with wild land fire fighting. It wasn’t something that we had to have, but something we found useful tool in that type of fire suppression.” – Barry Schwab
The annual event is held each year the Friday before Halloween at the Fairbury VFW.
