61 Year Old Man Dies In Custody Of The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department

61-year-old Endicott man has died while in custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

The man, whom officials identified as Mark Scheetz was found unresponsive in his cell on Monday, May 7th around 1:15 in the morning.  The jail staff began CPR and summoned assistance.  Sheetz was transported to Jefferson Community Health and Life, and later flown to Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln where he later died of an apparent heart attack.

Sheetz was awaiting court appearance for an arrest just 2 days prior for alleged suspicion of attempted murder, terroristic threats, and assault.

Per state law, a Grand Jury will be called to review this matter since Sheetz’s medical emergency began while being held in the jail.
