2 Juveniles Injured in Collision at Highway 81/91 Intersection

HUMPHREY – The 5th accident in under 5 weeks at the highways 81 and 91 intersection left two juveniles injured on Monday.

Platte County Sheriff Ed Wemhoff says they responded to the collision at 2:50 p.m.

A 55-year-old Neligh man was heading westbound on Highway 91 and attempted to cross the intersection. The Neligh man’s vehicle collided with the passengers side of a Ford Pickup, and caused the pickup to roll into the ditch near the southbound lanes of Highway 81.

One of the juveniles in the pickup had to be extricated by Humphrey Fire and Rescue. The pickup driver, a juvenile, was taken to Columbus Community Hospital by Humphrey FR, and a juvenile passenger was taken to Faith Regional in Norfolk by Creston Rescue, says Wemhoff.  Both juveniles were treated for minor injuries and released, says the sheriff.

Both vehicles suffered heavy damage, with the pickup was considered a total loss, says Wemhoff. The Neligh man was cited for failure to yield, and all involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts, says the sheriff.

Wemhoff says this is the 5th accident in under five weeks at that particular intersection, and asks that motorists be aware of other traffic when approaching the intersection. Wemhoff says the accidents at that intersection often occur, because one of the drivers is not paying attention.
