Two Streets in West Beatrice, Most Damaged by Flooding
Center Street

BEATRICE – When it comes to flood damage to streets in Beatrice this spring, the worst problems can be summed up in three words…Center and Bluff.

Although there was damage elsewhere, City Street Superintendent Jason Moore says the two north-south streets that provide access to the Scott Street recreational complex were under water for a significant period.

Although Center Street has received a lot of rock material, Moore says it’s still not in good enough shape to reopen the gravel road. He says warmer, more consistent temperatures, would help.

Bluff Street

One block west, Bluff Street….an armor coated hard-surfaced road, saw significant flood damage.

Moore feels Center Street will not be a high-cost repair issue.  On Bluff Street, which will handle a lot of summer ball-field tournament traffic in the coming weeks, Moore says crews will clean it up, as best they can.

Moore says the hope is to install more permanent new asphalt.  But with contractors heavily booked with road repairs in other areas of Nebraska, local crews plan to put down a temporary layer, for now.

As for other flood impact, Moore says Helen Street had some damage, along with River Road, Doyle Lane and Belvidere Street.
