WINSIDE – This weekend Roy Reed Unit 252, American Legion Auxiliary in Winside will host their monthly meeting.
On Saturday, October 1 at 9:30 a.m. all are welcome to the Winside Legion Hall on the corner of Hunter and East Main Streets.
The group is down to their final six membership renewals and can process them during the meeting. Senior dues are $21 while Junior dues are $3 through age 17.
Also during the meeting members will discuss their Veterans Day Program according to Unit Secretary Beverly Neel.
“We do award our Poppy Poster contest winners on Veterans Day at the school their prize money,” said Neel.
Veterans Day is on Friday, November 11.
The Department of Nebraska is hosting a state-wide calendar raffle drawing. Roy Reed Unit 252, American Legion Auxiliary will also continue their calendar raffle as they have 25 remaining to be sold for $50 each. The calendars make great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, or Christmas. Contact Unit Secretary Beverly Neel at 402-369-0152. Cash prizes range from $50 to $1000.
Any female with direct descendent of a man or women having served or is currently serving in the armed forces under federal orders is eligible to join the Auxiliary. The veteran needed to serve during the wartime periods of World War I and II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Panama, Grenada and Persian Gulf conflict which continues until Congress brings it to a close.
Neel added that there has been an eligibility wording change.
“It’s the mothers, daughters, sisters, grand-mother and adopted females,” Neel added. “They used to have step-children in there.”
