Nebraska football hall of famer, Army vet Dennis ‘Duke’ Emanuel dies at age 86

LINCOLN — Nebraska Football Hall of Famer Dennis “Duke” Emanuel, who was an All-Big Seven defensive end in 1951 and 1952, died April 21 in Lincoln. He was 86.

Services were Saturday in North Bend, Nebraska, where he graduated from high school in 1950.

Emanuel lettered for the Huskers in 1951 and 1958. Coach Bill Glassford did not letter him in 1952, although he was all-conference, because of grades. He played service ball while in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956, then returned to Lincoln to finish his degree.
