Michigan State batters Huskers to salvage last game of Big Ten softball series

Lincoln — Michigan State avoided a sweep in its first Big Ten Conference softball series of the season Sunday with a 9-1, five-inning victory over Nebraska.

The Spartans roughed up Huskers starter Kaylan Jablonski for five earned runs in three innings after the senior from Omaha Skutt had posted victories in the first two games.

Kristina Zalewski earned the compete-game victory for the Spartans by limiting NU to just one extra-base hit — an RBI double by Alyvia Simmons in the fifth inning — and five total hits in the game played before a crowd of 388 at Bowlin Stadium.

The Huskers (23-10, 2-1 Big Ten) are scheduled to host South Dakota on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before heading to Chicago for a three-game series against Northwestern beginning Friday.
