Evanston, Ill. — Two home runs by Laura Barrow and another by Kaylan Jablonski on Friday helped power Nebraska to a 6-2 victory over Northwestern.
Barrow and Alyvia Simmons were each 3 for 4 and combined with Jablonski for all seven of Nebraska’s hits. Barrow’s first home run was a solo shot in the first inning, and Jablonski slugged her eighth of the season to left field after Tristen Edwards walked.
Barrow’s second home run followed a leadoff double by Simmons in the fifth inning. Olivia Ferrell bounced back from an arm injury that kept her sidelined for nearly two weeks to earn her seventh victory of the season.
Ferrell, a freshman from Elkhorn South, gave up one run on two hits in four innings. Jablonski pitched the final three innings for her fifth save this season , giving up one run on two hits.
Nebraska and Northwestern will meet again at 1 p.m. Saturday in the second game of the three-game series.
