The Nebraska football team returned to the Top 10 for the first time in nearly five years Monday, earning the No. 10 spot in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The poll, which usually comes out Sundays, was published a day later due to two college games being pushed back one day by Hurricane Matthew.

Nebraska — which jumped from No. 12 in last week’s poll — was last ranked in the Top 10 heading into its Nov. 5, 2011 matchup with Northwestern. The No. 9 Huskers lost that game 28-25 and fell to 19th when polls came out the following day. You can see the complete history of Nebraska’s ranking in the polls in The World-Herald’s Husker History database.

The AP poll features four Big Ten teams, all in the Top 10: No. 2 Ohio State; No. 4 Michigan, No. 8 Wisconsin and No. 10 Nebraska. It’s the first time since 1960 that the conference has had that many top-10 teams during the regular season, according to the AP. The Big Ten had four teams ranked in the top 10 in the preseason poll of 1999, but the last time it happened during the regular season was Oct. 3, 1960, with No. 3 Iowa, No. 4 Illinois, No. 5 Ohio State and No. 7 Purdue.

World-Herald staff writer Sam McKewon, an AP poll voter, ranked the Huskers 14th on his Top 25 ballot.
