PRAGUE, NE – A Nebraska Non-Profit is encouraging people to “Play Dirty and Feel Good About It”. That is the slogan for Pink Bandana’s Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament, designed to raise money and awareness for Women with Breast Cancer. The event is a 256 team tournament played in Mud Pits in the town of Prague, Nebraska — the main event during a full weekend of fun.
“The tournament is one day, but… the party starts Friday. It’s really become more of a festival.”
The tournament is competitive, and always lots of fun, but everyone involved understands the true meaning of the weekend is to focus on young women under the age of 40 who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
“The focus is on those women, and celebrating everything they stand for. We want to celebrate their lives, the ones that are fight… and to remember the ones that have passed away.”
The highlight of the weekend? Honoring the three women chosen to receive special recognition, and some financial help to go along with it.
The recipients are brought on stage and presented with a $10,000 check. This check can be used however the recipient decides, whether it be a vacation, or put toward a bill.
The recipients this year are Kate Gorman, Maya Wittmaack, and Jenae Jindra – but these donations, and the event as a whole would not be possible without a lot of outside help.
“The sponsorships are what’s really important… without the sponsors we couldn’t do it at the level we do it.
All workers at the event are volunteers, so any donations the company receives go directly into the events and rewards. If you or your business want to be a sponsor, you can donate on the website ww.PinkBandana.org or email Jeremy at JeremyS@Pinkbandana.org Donations are due by May 24th.
