FALLS CITY, NE – Before there was ever a pitch on Tuesday night, both Nebraska City and Auburn knew they would be competing in the 2017 Class B Juniors State Tournament at Clemmy Holmes Field in Nebraska City, beginning on Saturday.

But don’t think there was nothing to play for at Southeast Nebraska Communications Field in Falls City: a win over a rival, pride in southeast Nebraska and an area tournament championship.

A post on the Post 8 Baseball Twitter account Tuesday read, “Hosting and going to state is nice, but tonight we EARN IT!”

The Post 8 Juniors scored all seven runs in the first two innings and secured the tournament championship with a 7-0 victory.

Garrett Bassinger earned the win on the mound. Zach Dickerson took the loss.

The team hosting a Nebraska American Legion Baseball State Tournament automatically qualifies to compete. Nebraska City (27-2) advancing to the area tournament title game meant Auburn also qualified, no matter what the result would have been Tuesday.

Nebraska City and Auburn state tournament games will be available to listen to on B103 (103.1 FM, and the B103 app).
