MUDECAS Day Two: Higher Seeds Keep Control

BEATRICE – The second day of the MUDECAS basketball tournament saw all but one of the higher seeds win on Tuesday.

Bruning-Davenport/Shickley provided the first thriller of the tournament, holding off Parkview Christian 64-61 in the A Division behind 23 points from Caden Norder. The Eagles will face top seed Falls City Sacred Heart in the semifinals after the Irish handled Diller-Odell 52-20.

The rest of the A Division saw #3 Freeman take care of Palmyra 48-37 and #2 Johnson-Brock had just a three point lead at half before running away from Tri County 62-31. Freeman and Johnson-Brock will meet in the other semifinal.

The B Division saw the only lower seed to win thus far as #5 Johnson County Central held off a comeback attempt by #4 HTRS  to come out on top 46-35. Their semifinal opponent will be #1 Exeter-Milligan, which doubled up Meridian 58-29. Meanwhile #3 Pawnee City got past Sterling 42-35 and will face #2 Southern in the semis, after the Raiders beat Lewiston 54-35.

Thursday both the girls and boys will play their semifinals with the following matchups:

A DIVISION (all games at City Auditorium)

3:30 – Meridian vs. Exeter-Milligan Girls
5:00 – Sacred Heart vs. BDS Girls
6:30 – Sacred Heart vs. BDS Boys
8:00 – Freeman vs. Johnson-Brock Boys

B DIVISION (all games at SCC)

3:30 – Southern vs. HTRS Girls
5:00 – Sterling vs. Pawnee City Girls
6:30 – Exeter-Milligan vs. JCC Boys
8:00 – Southern vs. Pawnee City Boys
