DeWITT – The Meridian girls basketball team is moving on after handling Deshler in a subdistrict semifinal 61-40 on Tuesday night.
Deshler kept it close through the first half and trailed by just three at the break, but Meridian turned up the pressure on defense to pull away for the win.
Erin Johnson led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points and Jaicee Sobotka added 13. Jaden Siegle paced Deshler with 13 points.
Meridian moves on to the subdistrict final while Deshler’s season ends with a record of 10-11.
Meridian’s opponent will be the Friend Lady Bulldogs, who shut down Bruning-Davenport/Shickley in the second game of the night 69-44.
Friend fell behind just once in the game and only for a few seconds as they held a seven point lead at halftime and ran away in the second half. BDS had a bad night shooting the ball, making just one three pointer in the game.
Raeleigh Menke powered the Friend offense with 25 points and Brooke Baugh scored 16 of her 18 points in the second half and Claire Kubicek knocked down four three pointers to finish with 14.
Lexi Kadel led BDS with 19 points. Their season ends with a 16-7 record.
Friend and Meridian will face off in the subdistrict final Thursday night at Tri County High School. The game can be heard live on Ol Red 99-5 starting at about 6:40 p.m.
