NEBRASKA CITY – Juniors Bryce Levy and Trent Fahey homered and the Nebraska City baseball team beat Crete, 8-3, Tuesday at Clemmy Holmes Field in Nebraska City.
Levy’s home run, his first of his career, was a solo shot in the second inning and gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Levy finished 1-2 at the plate with two runs scored.
Fahey went 1-2 with two runs scored and hit a two-run shot in the third, part of a four-run inning. The home run scored senior Garrett Bassinger, who drove in two runs in the previous at-bat with a double. Bassinger finished 2-3 with two runs scored.
It’s the Pioneers fourth-straight win and head coach Kyle Ferguson says getting outside and playing everyday is helping.
“The big thing is trying to get these guys to carry that approach from the (batting) cage out to the field. They all hit well in the cage. It’s a confidence thing. It’s a mental thing. Getting everyone of them with that right mental approach is a big thing.”
Sophomore Jordan Williams threw six innings, gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out six in the victory. Senior Jace Becker threw one inning of relief and struck out one while giving up a run on no hits.
Crete senior Carson Johansen led the Cardinals with a 2-4 day at the plate. He also had an RBI and a run scored.
Senior pitcher Carter Kent took the loss. He went five innings, gave up five runs on three hits and stuck out 10.
