Kearney, Neb. (Kearney Hub) Around 80 brave souls took an arctic plunge in the cold and foggy weather Sunday in Kearney all in the name of charity.
They took part in the Polar Plunge to raise money for the Nebraska Special Olympics. Teams dressed up in costumes and jumped into Yanney Lake, but only after the ice was broken apart by the fire department.
This is also part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, so the men in blue shed their uniforms and jumped in too.
The Special Olympics has competitions going on year round. Organizers say the funds raised Sunday will go toward transportation for special olympics athletes in the Kearney area.
