BEATRICE – In a sea of red at SCC’s Truman Center, Johnson-Brock got the better of Meridian to claim the MUDECAS A Division Title.
In the Class D1 State Championship rematch, Johnson-Brock jumped on the Mustangs early to take a 25-18 first set victory.
They would then hold off Meridian in the second set 25-21 to remain undefeated at 14-0 on the year. The two time defending state champion Eagles have now only lost one set on the season (Tuesday vs. Freeman).
Despite winning two straight state titles, this was Senior Kaitlynn Simon’s first MUDECAS title with this group.
“I think that we deserve it. We work hard every day in practice. We gather as a team and do team bonding. We just love the game of volleyball and we play to win. I think our success is going great.”
For the Mustangs, it was their first loss of 2017. They drop to 9-1.
In the B Division finals, it was the top seed prevailing for the championship. #1 Palmyra took down #3 Tri County, 25-19, 25-19.
The win keeps Palmyra’s perfect season alive. They are now 8-0 on the season.
In the third place contests, it was Exeter-Milligan over Freeman in the A Division and Sterling over Pawnee City in the B Division.
