The Flatwater Fracas was held over the weekend at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island. The Flatwater Fracas is the premier wrestling event in the state of Nebraska. This 27-team, two-day event draws high school wrestling teams from not just Nebraska, but also Kansas, Wyoming, and Colorado all competing for top honors.
Fairbury High School was one of those teams competing and Head Coach Derek Garfield was proud of how his young team competed in what he calls the biggest most competitive tournaments in Nebraska.
“We’re young, we competed, won some matches, didn’t win any duals. We wrestled a lot of Class A, big schools but we embraced the challenge and really enjoyed doing that. We’re progressively getting better every week. Our kids got a lot of great experience this weekend. We’re excited for Christmas break to get here and recharge the batteries a little bit and comeback for the second half ready to rock and roll.”
Kearney was the big winner. They defeated four teams that were ranked in the top five in their classes to come away with its second consecutive Flatwater Fracas title Saturday at the Heartland Events Center.
