FALLS CITY – A Friday afternoon crash sent one vehicle spinning into a ditch with the victim eventually taken out of town via helicopter.
According to the Falls City Police, around 1:30 p.m. Friday, two vehicles approached the intersection of Highway 73 and 35th St. in Falls City.
Truck driver Justine Elliot of Arkansas, told police she was driving a heavy truck, northbound on HWY 73, when a white Nissan SUV heading east, drove in front of her and forced a collision.
According to police, the front of the truck hit the passengers side of the SUV, driven by Steven Thompson of Falls City. FCPD says the SUV spun two and half times before landing in a roadside ditch.
62-year-old Thompson, who was not wearing his seat belt, was taken to Community Medical Center in Falls City, before being taken out of town by medical helicopter. His condition is unknown at this time.
44-year-old Elliot, who was not injured, said that she had no time to brake before striking Thompson’s vehicle. Police say there was no evidence of skid-marks on the road.
Elliot was driving a vehicle owned by Road Masters Power Transport of Athens, Texas.
A witness told police that Thompson’s vehicle ran a stop sign.
A citation is currently pending for Thompson. He was unable to talk to police after the accident.
