BEATRICE – The Beatrice High School Falls Sports Season came to a conclusion on Friday night at the House of Orange, as 2nd seed Gretna defeated the 10th seed Orangemen, 48-21, in the second round of the Class-B football playoffs.
Donald Stalker returned the opening kickoff 90-yards for a touchdown, and the Dragons kept all the momentum for the rest of the first half. Gretna led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter on their way to a 34-6 halftime lead.
Jacob Pinkerton’s 13-yard dash into the end zone accounted for the Orangemen’s only score in the first half. The Dragons scored the next two touchdowns to make it 48-6, before Beatrice closed out the scoring.
Pinkerton connected with Dillon Buss on a 51-yard touchdown pass, before Cooper Blum hit Kyle Leners on a 37-yard scoring strike.
For Beatrice, Dalton Hartig finished with eleven receptions for 105-yards, while Blum was 21-35 passing for 195 yards.
Beatrice ended the season at 8-3, while Gretna advanced to the semi-finals by improving to 9-2. The Dragons will host Omaha Skutt.
The Skyhawks broke a 28-all tie by scoring in the final three minutes to end the Norris football season, 35-28. The Titans ended their season at 8-3.
In the other semi-final, top-seed, unbeaten and defending state champion Elkhorn South will face 5th seed McCook. The Storm defeated Aurora, while the Bison shutout Blair.
