Friend Defends Home Field in Thrilling Win Over Exeter-Milligan

FRIEND – Offense was not an issue for Friend or Exeter-Milligan, as the Bulldogs just squeak by the Timberwolves, 44-40.

It was a battle on the ground for these two offenses. They combined for over 700 yards rushing in the matchup.

Exeter-Milligan got on the board first with a touchdown in the first quarter and early second quarter from Trevor Luzum and Joey Bartu. Edwen Baptista would tie the score on runs from 10 and 17 yards out. Following another Luzum touchdown, right before the half, on his only completion of the game, Kyle Dickinson hit Kolby Houlden for a 50 yard touchdown pass to make the score 20-20 at the halftime break.

Late in the fourth quarter, trailing 44-40, the Timberwolves did get an onside kick before throwing an interception. After getting the ball back with only 12.6 seconds remaining, Exeter-Milligan fell 40 yards short.

It was back and forth all game long, but in the end, Kolby Houlden and Edwen Baptista proved to be too much for Exeter-Milligan’s defense. Holden finished with 282 yards and three touchdowns rushing and Baptista ended with 144 yards and three touchdowns, as well, running the football.

Trevor Luzum had a big day running the football for the Timberwolves, too. He ran for 244 yards and four touchdowns. He also added six receptions.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 3-1 and will travel to Mead next week.

The Timberwolves drop to 2-3 and will host Weeping Water next Friday.
